Alateen is part of Al-Anon Family Groups. Alateen was founded in 1957.  Alateen is a fellowship of young Al-Anon members, usually teenagers, whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members who help the group to stay on track. Alateens come together to:

• Share experiences, strength, and hope with each other.
• Discuss difficulties.
• Learn effective ways to cope with problems.
• Encourage one another.
• Help each other understand the principles of the Al-Anon program, including the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions.

 The Annual Alateen Recertification Window Opens January 08, 2026!

Every year, each Area in the World Service Conference Structure is required to take part in

the Annual Alateen Recertification process in order to continue to use the Alateen name.

The 2003 Alateen Motion from the Board of Trustees (see the Appendix of

the Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual [P-24/27]) and the policy for Alateen explain this.

The recertification process is two-fold:

1. To verify that every registered Alateen group has currently certified Al-Anon

Members Involved in Alateen Service (AMIAS):

o   as Group Sponsor(s)

o   as the Current Mailing Address (CMA) for the Alateen group

o   as a Phone Contact for the public for the Alateen group

2. To verify the current certification of all AMIAS-

We ask that all Areas complete the Alateen recertification by June 15, 2026!

Representative to verify the process in your Area. Don’t miss this opportunity to share your
